Overwhelmed?  Hopeless?  Defeated?  Angry?  

Everywhere we look it seems the world is burning down around us.

 Most of us wish we could do something to help but we feel so powerless.  After all, we tell ourselves, “I’m only one person, and these problems feel so big.”

Oof…I get it.

I’ve spent most of my life reeling from injustice and trying to understand how we can live in a world with so much wonder and magic and yet…

In so many ways, we (humanity) are missing it.

My quest has led me down one existential dead end after another, until…

I began to study the sacred leaders that have led peaceful revolutions through some of the darkest chapters of human history.  

Jesus Christ, Mahatma Gandhi, MLK, Jr., Nelson Mandela, Gloria Steinem…

What made them so powerful?

How were they able to overcome insurmountable odds, bring oppression to its knees and change the course of history?

Well, they all had one thing in common–

Their unwavering faith in the power of truth and love to overcome evil.

I know it’s hard to see right now, because we’re in the storm, and the sky is darkened by so many (geo-engineered) clouds. 

But the sacred leaders of history measured progress in centuries, rather than moments.  

And when all hope seemed lost– when they were gaslit, imprisoned, subject to evil beyond comprehension– they held the vision for the world they knew was possible with unwavering faith.  

They were even willing to die for it.

And eventually, the Roman Empire did, in fact, fall.  

As did the Nazis.  The British Colonial Empire.  Apartheid South Africa.  

Today, western women and the LGTBQ community enjoy freedoms that seemed impossible to our ancestors who fought so hard for the life we live today.

And we are closer to Dr. King’s dream than ever before.  

The leaders who dared to challenge the oppressive regimes of their day…

Were called by a higher power to hold the f****ng line.

Even when all hope seemed lost.

And today, they are revered as the heroes of their time.

We too are being called to hold the line.  

To hold the vision for the change we know is possible with unwavering faith.

So that our children can enjoy a world that feels impossible today.

A world with systems that are regenerative and sustainable, where we celebrate our differences and lift up every member of humanity equally.  

So I ask you, when you look back on your life, what role will you have played in the grand rising that is underway?
